Hi MSUans,

Two weeks ago I featured a rare Domeing where an alumni general met and paid for the bill of two alumni hijackers.

This noon, I received an urgent text from Alice Dumpor Adolfo, ex CdeO alumni president, and a call I missed while on the phone with MSU VP Boy Lagare. The phone was that of Glen Rosauro, batch '68, a dear friend and a passionate MSUan.

With regret, Alice informed me that GLEN, son of pioneer Math professor Rosauro, passed away today due to a vehicular accident. Details are still unclear. I have been trying to contact Lorna Rosauro Mercader, his sister, who's still in shock according to Alice.

Glen has remained a bachelor and lives with Lorna's family. He teaches Mandarin at DOLE/POEA Mondays to Saturdays to China-bound OFWs.

Wake is at St. Peter Memorial chapel at Quezon Ave., QC, halfway between Welcome Rotunda and Timog Ave. Some MSUans will be there this evening.

Lorna's cell phone: 0918-9123471

Another MSUan pioneer leaving us before his time is . . .

My CONDOLENCES to the family of Kuya Glen.

I might belong to the newer generations of MSU alumni, but i have the opportunity to meet Kuya Glen Rosauro and asked him questions on that famous Hijacking Story we back when. When i was still in Manila and living in an apartment with a few other Alumni we decided to study Mandarin. We asked Kuya Glen to teach us Mandarin and he did. Every weekend for an hour or two he would come to our apartment and teach us the basics of Mandarin. And we loved every minute of it.

It is a great loss, but the Almighty has His reasons.

SEI SEI KUYA GLEN where ever you are.

Hi Dean,

GLEN while on his way to work yesterday died in a vehicular accident nearby Baler and Judge Luna Sts. in Frisco area. He was in a taxi driven by a Tausug driver and which was hit by an Izuzu van driven by a Butuanon lady. The taxi spun a few times and smashed into a concrete post. Glen wasn't strapped in harness belt at the back seat. The forceful impact caused major injuries to his face and back of his head. I understand he was DOA at a nearby hospital.

Last night, Manila MSUans gathered at St. Peter Memorial chapel at Quezon Ave. QC to view his body. Despite the delay in the preparation due to autopsy performed by the police to ensure no foul play was involved, friends were around to condole with Lorna Rosauro Mercader, his sister, and Owen, his brother who managed to arrive from Ozamis on short notice.

Glen's body will be taken to Ozamis on April 9th for burial as wished by Prof. Rosauro who's now 86 years old.

For those not in the know, Glen entered MSU in 1967. He was one of the six MSUans who 'inaugurated PAL's service' to China in 1971. Stayed in Chinese communes for years and returned to the Phil under an amnesty program in the later Marcos years. He has remained a bachelor, was staying at Lorna's and teaching Mandarin or Putonghua at OWWA in Intramuros, Mondays to Saturdays. He taught too many MSUans basic Chinese. At the time of his death, he was writing the memoirs of six (6) brave MSUans who took matters literally into their hands, spent their ideological years in an erstwhile proletarian shangrila and returned to be productive citizens in the countries of their choice.

It's ironic that he'd just perish in an urban maze he so abhorred during his 'rebellious times', so to speak.

May he rest in eternal peace!

Hi Manila MSUans,

Tonight, Monday, April 7, 2008, a Catholic mass will be celebrated at 8 pm for Glen. Thereafter, a mini tribute to a dear friend and true MSUan will follow.

We expect MSUans to be present and celebrate Glen's life before he leaves for Ozamis by Wednesday and beyond to meet his Creator. Mother Encar Granados will be there too. And of course, our newest MSUan, XP Dick de Leon, who's always present to lend support.

See you at St. Peter Memorial Chapel, Quezon Ave. corner Sct. Tuatoco St., Roxas District, Quezon City (beside Mitsubishi Motors Bldg).

Thanks/Bob

(Ben P - thanks for the MEVN special on Glen. I will give copy to the family)

MSUANS WORLDWIDE:

Let us pray for Glen Rosauro and his family.

He was one of the six passengers of the first Philippine Airline flight to China in 1971.

Updates are posted at MSUANS WHO WENT AHEAD OF THEIR TIME

It is almost 40 years ago, but it seems that I can still picture in my mind the events and the talks before and after the MSUan-initiated 1971 PAL flight to China.

Being a freshman at that time and living at Rajah Indarapatra Hall brought a lot of these flashbacks in my being an MSUuan since I first heard about Glen's fatal accident this weekend.

Hi Ben,

I am deeply saddened at Glen’s passing in the car crash. Glen and his baby brother Owen were our mates during our MSU years; 1967 to 72, in my case.

Glen visited me upon his return from China when the Philippine government gave them amnesty to go back to the Philippines. I was then working at San Miguel Corporation. I again met Glen when I visited Manila, at the Dome Café in Cubao, Q.C. where ex-MSUans from Metro Manila (or from out of town visiting Manila) gather every Thursday night for drinks to catch up.

I have sent Bob Lim a text message and requested to extend my condolences to Glen’s loved ones. I will miss Glen.

Dear Fellow MSUans,

My family and I express our deepest condolences to the family of Glen Rosauro and all MSUans worldwide on the untimely demise of Glen Rosauro.

I came to know Glen when we were both residents of Ipil Residence Hall at UP Diliman in the ealy 80s when I was taking my masteral degree in that institution. Glen was a great friend and kuya. He told stories about his escapades with Danny Lobitania and fellow MSUans when they hijacked that plane to China. He was also pretty good in chess and has great PR.

May our brother Glen rest in eternal peace.

Sincerely,

Danny Israel

Dear Ka-batch Glen,

You really dedicated yourself to helping your countrymen in your own simple ways. And I know that your good deeds on Earth will definitely land you to eternal life in the Kingdon of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Glen, the first time we met after that historic hijacking event in the Philippines in 1971 was at Ipil Dorm in Dilliman where you were trying to look for MSUans in the campus in 1980. That was memorable to me as I got a first hand info on what really happened during your historic flight to Beijing, China and on the whereabouts of the other 5 MSUans (Daniel Lobitana from Zamboanga, Fructuoso Chua from Davao City, Edgardo Mausisa from Davao City, EduardoTigulo from Cagayan de Oro, and Baskinas (NSDB) from Bicol who were with you. Then, we saw each other again during our 1st MSUan reunion in Metro Manila in 1981 or 1982. I believed we were in a Bowling Alley where our batch competed with the other batches in a bowling game. I could not recall anymore (due to dimishing number of gray cells in my brain) if you were with us during a drinking spree at Harry Abrillo's residence in Quezon City. I could remember other ka-batch (1967 MSU-Main Entrants) Leopoldo Titular, Francisco Bagaforo (I guess), Harry (of course), and Benjamin Suemith (not sure) and batch 1970 Leonardo Roa and Henry Abrillo (Harry's brother). That was it. Then the next thing I knew was that your life was cut short in a vehicular accident. Only then I learned more about your good works in the community where you were in when lots of nice and kind words kept pouring in our website. I just left myself on the sideline as I waited for more stuff about you. Now, it's my turn to send my profound condolences to your dad, Prof Rosauro and his children on your untimely death.

Goodbye, Glen . . .

Hello Fred,

The song is "Try to remember" soundtrack from "The Fantastics". I think Prof. Zoe Alferez sang this when the MSU Faculty presented a play at the lecture hall. The Goodshines (The Letterman version), under the baton of the late Andre Jovellanos, sang this song at one of the choral contests at MSU.

I will perform this song next weekend at my gig....dedicated to Glen.

I, really am sorry for what had happened to Glen. His ideals and struggles were not in vain.

My sympathies to Owen and his whole family.

May Glen rest in peace. We will all miss him.

Subject: Glen's wake in Ozamiz

Greetings from Ozamiz!

It's now 9:04 am, April 12, 2008. In about 4 hours or so, Glen will be laid to rest in the Mt. Malindang Memorial Park here in Ozamiz City. Last night former MSU Pres. Jun Alonto came. Glen's fellow traveller to China, Tigulo also came and asked to spend some time undisturbed beside coffin bearing Glen. Dong Salvaña who happened to have been in Zambo Sur and was on his way to CDO decided to make a stop and stay overnight here in Ozamiz instead. Jun Alonto, Tigulo and myself stayed till 3:30 this morning talking about their adventure in China, about MSU, abiut the peoples of Mindanao, Koran, Bible and everyhting else MSUans talk about. Prof. Rosauro who is 86 years old showed that his mind is still as keen and sharp as it had always been, brought otu his collection of clippings on how Glen and his 5 companions persuaded a Davao bound flight to veer northwwards to China. Prof. Rosauro stayed till past midnight. Glen's brother Owen attended to all our needs. Earlier in the evening the video Monday (April 7) evening of tribute from MSUans was shown as well as that of the next evening showing Glen's students in his OWWA Mandarin classes giving tribute to their teacher. ( I shall upload what I took later on Youtube).

Owen brought Glen home to Ozamiz last Wednesday. (Yes the Ozamiz airport is now open and has daily flights to Manila vis Air Philippines). I am glad I decided to advance my trip to Naawan by a week so Owen will have company and was able to take some pictures at the wake which I am happy to share with all MSUans.

Subject: Glen Laid to Rest

Dear MSUan,

It's a tribute to the Glen as a person and to the life he lived that when he was laid in his final resting place at Mt. Malindang Memorial Garden in Ozamiz City on April 12, 2008, it was attended by an Army general who is still in active service and a past president of MSU. It can be remembered that during the wake in Manila a past MSU president and a just retired Army General also came to pay their final respects.

Last Saturday on hand during the burial were Major General Nemy Pajarito, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division based in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur –an MSUan, and Dr. Ahmad E. Alonto Jr.

Mindo Rondael and Jo Montero Rondael came all the way from Zamboanga City, Alice Dumpor came in from Cagayan de Oro while Natz Boniao and Linda Ong Boniao drove from Iligan. Also in attendance were Myrna A. Sanchez, Loyda A. Bangahan, Pidoy Cruspero, Roy Edades, Viola Edades and Edu Ignacio. Dong Salvaña attended the funeral mass at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

What made the final rites moving was the singing of Glen's favorite song right after the funeral mass I am not sure of the correct title of the song but the first line of the song is "Try to remember, the kind of September." I am sure everyone knows what I mean. A long cortege consisting of relatives and friends of the Rosauros accompanied Glen in his final trip. Governor Leo Ocampos sent the Mis. Occ. provincial government's bus to bring the mourners to the memorial garden. (The governor was one of the first students of Prof. Rosauro when he handled the MBA program of Misamis University.)

For all those who sent their expression of grief and sympathy to the family of Glen through this MSUans@googlegroups, I have compiled and printed all that I can retrieve as suggested by Bob. I shall present the hardcopy in a nice folder to the family before leaving Ozamiz.

Attached are some pictures taken during the final rites and interment.
